Sho-Tai is a type of applied kinesiology (muscle testing) that uses the body’s electrical system to find strengths or weaknesses. Kinesiology is a natural health testing modality and there are various types of kinesiology. The key difference with Sho-Tai is that the practitioner uses their own hand and a tapping method to test the client’s electrical frequencies, versus using only the clients body.
What is Kinesiology?
The premise of kinesiology is that all stress, body imbalances and blockages in the nervous system can be detected by testing the tension in specific muscles.
It has been found that all muscles in the body are connected to different internal organs, endocrine glands, specific nutrition, thoughts and feelings, and other parts of the body’s electrical system. Sho Tai testing is used to detect various imbalances in the body that might lie behind many physical, mental and emotional problems.
How Kinesiology Works
What are Iridology and Sclerology?
Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye and sclerology is the study of the whites of the eye. These include the study of the texture as well as the color or the iris, the shape of the pupil and the sclera.
The density of the iris fibre equals the ability the person has to resist disease. People who have weak fibre structures in their irises have more difficultly resisting disease and they usually take longer to heal. People who have tightly woven iris fibres have a potentially stronger ability to resist disease and are considered to have “good constitution”. Each part of the eye is linked to a part of the body (eg: lungs, lymphatic system, bowel, etc.). An iridologist looks for areas where the fibres are weak or strong, to identify their relationship to the body.
The Chinese say the eyes are the “windows to the soul”, and that there are only two true eye colors, and every other color portrays potential problems. The color of the iris and the color of the markings on the eye display certain deficiencies in the body.
Blue eyed people are more prone to potential weaknesses in the lymphatic system. Dark brown eyed people are more prone to blood abnormalities. Green eyed people are more prone to infection. People with mixed or biliary colored eyes are generally prone to liver and gall bladder insufficiencies and digestive disturbances. The transversals (blood vessel markings on the whites of the eyes) represent congestion, inflammation or obstruction to the particular organ or gland they point to.
Like the eyes, the tongue is like a roadmap.
Different parts of the top and underneath the tongue represent different parts of the body. It’s not as detailed as the eyes, but is used as a secondary modality to identify deficiencies.
For example, the middle of the tongue represents the spine and small intestine, while the underside shows hormones, fatty deposits in the blood, etc. The cracks, texture, color and indentations on the tongue are also analyzed. The tongue is an excellent tool to identify weaknesses that were not yet present, or were overlooked, in the eyes.

Sho-Tai Practitioners must successfully pass exams for iridology, the reading the tongue, and sho-Tai itself. They must also understand how to use herbs, plants and nutrition to treat the body.
